Why is recycling important to us?
As an established family business of complete integrity, we feel that we have a duty to ensure that we make a positive contribution to help the environment.
For Woodberry of Leamington Spa, recycling is very much seen as part of the ethics of being a good company. A large proportion of our furniture is manufactured from timber that isn’t easy to upcycle, so it is very important that we find ways that we can put the unused timber to another use.
“As a business, we all have a corporate responsibility to ensure any waste matter generated can be converted into some form of reusable material, where ever possible.” Tim Barr, General Manager, Woodberry of Leamington Spa.
What do we recycle?
Wood Off-cuts
All our smaller components of wood are used for ‘sub-framing’ joints, these are the joints fitted underneath our benches and tables. Any off-cuts of wood left over from the sub-framing joints are cut down until they are too small to be used as a furniture component. When they are finally too small to be used in the production process, these timber blocks are rendered down and donated for use as kindling wood to a local charity called ‘Community Care & Responsibility Project (CCRP)’ who provide work for people with a disability.
Saw Dust
All of the sawdust generated from our production centre is collected up via an extractor fan that is fitted to the machinery, pumped through an out pipe and finally deposited into a skip ready to be bagged up. The sawdust is donated to an array of local businesses. Our connections with Engineering firms and Manufacturing plants enable us to donate all our kilos of sawdust to be used for mopping up oil spills.
Paper, Packaging and Metal
The paper used in our sales office is 100% recyclable and deposited into a 40-yard skip ready to be collected for recycling. We also try to reuse the cardboard packaging from the various equipment and material deliveries. Any packaging received is taken to our cutting shop and carefully cut down and customised to fit our #seriouslygoodfurniture, all ready for dispatch to our customers. Any off cuts of cardboard packaging that cannot be re-used is recycled along with our used paper.
Metal furniture that has become damaged and furniture fixings that are deemed faulty are also saved and used for scrap metal.
Greendine Furniture
This very popular range of furniture is manufactured from a clever cocktail of recycled plastics, including hay bale wrappings and plastic milk and juice cartons. The plastic planks are cut to the size needed to produce each piece of furniture. Any off cuts are saved and returned back to the manufacturers to be recycled and produced into a new workable size of plastic plank. So if you have a Greendine piece at your venue, you will be happy to know how you have done your bit in being kinder to the environment!
