If you don’t find the answer to your question in our gas patio heaters FAQs then please give us a call on 01926 889922.
Can gas patio heaters be connected to mains gas?
We would strongly advise against connecting them to mains gas.
The free standing patio heaters are designed to take a 13kg gas canister. Having a canister means they can be moved to where you need them to be located and there are no pipes outside of the unit that could be a tripping hazard.
What gas do gas patio heaters take?
The range of gas patio heaters that Woodberry offers all require 13kg portable propane or LPG canisters.
These will need to be bought or hired separately. Please ensure you know you can get gas canisters before purchasing a gas patio heater as there is currently a shortage of portable gas canisters in the UK.
How long does the patio heater gas canister last?
Approximately 40 hours if you are heating an area between 15 – 20 square metres. However, the gas patio heaters have variable settings so you can make the canister last longer by turning down the heat output per hour.
So cost wise it is approximately £1 per hour to run.
How big an area do commercial gas patio heaters heat?
Due to the variable controls on the gas patio heaters, they can heat an area between 5-20 square metres depending on which setting you have them on.
How safe are commercial gas patio heaters?
If the safety procedures are followed then they are very safe. The range of gas patio heaters that Woodberry offers all have anti-tilt automatic shut off features. So if the patio heater is tipped the gas will automatically shut off.
The gas patio heaters will be hot to the touch for up to 45 minutes after they have been switched off.
Each of the gas patio heaters come with protective screens around the flame so customers cannot touch the flame or tamper with the mechanism but it will still be hot to the touch.
The free standing nature of the gas patio heaters means there are no pipes or cables around them that could cause tripping hazards.
Each gas patio heater is quite weighty (22kg min weight) so they will not blow over (unless it is a very strong wind).
Do gas patio heaters need to be inspected?
Yes, it is recommended that gas patio heaters are inspected by a qualified gas servicer every year.
You should check them over at least once a month as well to check that there is no damage to the gas patio heater, there are no loose connections or hose deterioration that could cause leakages.
Are gas patio heaters hot to touch?
Yes! The sections of the gas patio heater where heat is output will be hot to touch, even up to 45 minutes after the appliance has been turned off.
What happens if gas patio heaters tip over?
On the rare occasion that a gas patio heater is tipped over (human intervention can topple one if someone pushes it with intent), the gas will automatically shut off as the gas patio heaters all have an anti-tilt safety feature.
The gas patio heater will need to be checked over to see if any damage has been received and the hose connector to the gas canister checked to ensure it is still connected properly. The heater will then need to be reignited. Please follow all the safety set up instructions that accompany the specific products.
Can I get replacement parts for my gas patio heater?
Woodberry do not supply replacement parts for gas patio heaters directly but, if you have bought your gas patio heater from Woodberry and require parts please talk to us and we will try to support you.
Are free standing gas patio heaters difficult to move around?
Each of the gas patio heaters that Woodberry supplies are manoeuvrable by a single person. Several models come with wheels on the base to simply tip and move easily. Those models without wheels are easy enough to lift.
Each model comes with ground fixing bolts so these can be secured to the ground to avoid customers moving the gas patio heaters.
What about gas canister supply shortages?
There are currently gas canister shortages in the UK (as at November 2021). We would therefore recommend that you check you can get a supply of gas canisters on hire or to buy before you buy a gas patio heater.
Woodberry does not supply gas canisters with the gas patio heaters or for separate purchase.
Electric patio heaters might be a solution if you want outdoor heat but cannot source a reliable supply of gas canisters.
Can gas patio heaters be used in the rain?
Yes, but realistically if it is raining heavily then your customers are not going to be sitting outdoors without shelter. It is best for the wear and tear of the gas patio heater elements if they do not operate for significant time in the rain.
The casing of the gas patio heaters is stainless steel so they can be left outside and are weather proof but it is recommended they are turned off in the rain.
