The Anchor & Horseshoes is part of the Healy Pub Group. The Healy Group aims to make their pubs pour happiness into the lives of customers and be the pride of British hospitality.
The Anchor & Horseshoes had purchased a wooden gazebo from us and soon after learnt that we now offer comprehensive outdoor space solutions. As their outdoor space wasn’t generating enough footfall, they chose to trust us with the complete refurbishment of their outdoor area.
First Contact & Requirements
According to Sian Healy, the Property & Compliance Director of The Healey Family Group of pubs, their outdoor space had “no real curb appeal, no heating or lights and was a really disused, underutilised space”.
They wanted more “all-year-round”, “weatherproof” seating for outdoor dining, and most importantly somewhere that had “real curb appeal” so that they could increase their footfall.

Our Solution
To help the client reach their goals of increased footfall and enhanced curb appeal, we proposed a tailored solution that included several key elements: a wooden gazebo to allow all-year-round outdoor seating, a fenced area to section off the outdoor seating from the car park, planters filled with artificial flowers to add vibrance to the outdoor space, and a variety of tables and chairs to suit all customer needs.
Festoon lighting and patio heaters were also fitted to the wooden gazebo to create a cosy ambience and maximise outdoor footfall later into the night and on colder days.
The Process
Doug, one of our outdoor space experts, discussed options with the client, measured the outdoor area, and worked with an interior designer to put forward a proposal.
Our designer then drew up a sketch to show the client how the area would potentially look with the elements decided on. After showing the client the sketch and making some adjustments, a 3D realistic coloured drawing of exactly how the outdoor solution would look was drawn and shown to the client. After the client approved this design, we went ahead with the project.
The client described the process of working with us as “super easy” and called Woodberry a “one-stop-shop”.
Elements of the Refurbishment
The highlight of this project was our wooden gazebo with a clear polypropylene roof that provided shelter and let natural light through. Push-button 2kW electric patio heaters and plug in festoon lighting were installed to ensure a warm and inviting atmosphere even during colder months. The client then painted the gazebo, crossbuck fencing, and side entrance gates, ensuring a cohesive and polished look.
Bespoke wooden trough planters added colour to the outdoor space. Our team collaborated with the client to select artificial flower colours for the planters. Our experts then created beautiful flower arrangements providing an eye-catching decorative element. These planters, alongside the crossbuck fence that was installed, helped separate the outdoor seating area from the car park.
To create comfortable and functional seating, we installed Athos benches with waterproof cushions. Camden range tables with various coloured Bexley chairs, and gabion tables with stools, then added a stylish touch. These elements create a welcoming and visually appealing outdoor space that encourages more customers outside.
Client Feedback
The feedback from the Anchor & Horseshoes has been overwhelmingly positive. Patrons now sit outside to drink and have lunch, an activity they previously avoided as the outdoor area felt like part of the car park.
The new setup has successfully transformed the space, making it feel like an integral part of the building. According to Sian Healy, the Anchor & Horseshoes has “absolutely seen an increase in footfall”.
Sian additionally stated that the extra capacity has led to “increased overall revenue, but, most of all, happy customers and great feedback from them”.
